In September 2018 more than 125 Soldiers of the US Tennessee National Guard assigned to the 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion will begin an 11 month deployment to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian, the NATO-led international peacekeeping force which is responsible for establishing a secure environment in Kosovo.
The US battalion provides Air Assault, Air Movement and Aerial Casualty Evacuation. The 1-230th is headquartered in Nashville, with companies in Jackson, Nashville and Louisville, TN. “The United States Military has maintained a presence in Kosovo for over 20 years and the last few years these stability forces have been commanded by the National Guard,” said Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee’s Adjutant General. “Stabilization of this country is a commitment by the US and NATO, and the Tennessee National Guard has deployed numerous units and personnel over the years to assist in preserving the peace.”
Haradinaj is first Kosovo PM to visit US Military Base of Bondsteel
Ramush Haradinaj, is the first Kosovo Prime Minister who visited on Wednesday the US Military camp - Bondsteel, when he met Col. Nick Ducich, commander of the US military presence in Kosovo.
Haradinaj thanked the US military personnel for their contribution given in Kosovo saying that he came to the US Military base to thank them for their contribution. Asked by journalists to comment on statements of the Serb Orthodox Church (SPC) Decani monastery elder Sava Janjic who said that there are efforts to stage incidents and provoke partition of Kosovo, Kosovo PM Haradinaj said that these are only speculations. He said that there will be no partition of Kosovo confirming that he got confirmation of the high officials of NATO. Haradinaj has not commented when asked whether the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) will become Army of Kosovo during 2018.
Colonel Nick Ducich called on Kosovo Serbs not to leave the KSF adding that he is against pressure that Belgrade is excerting on KSF Serb members. Ducich said that he met many Serbs who are ready to become part of the KSF.
