Kosovo’s Central Election Commission verified 21 parties and coalitions for the coming parliamentary elections on Monday.
The Commission said it certified a total of 685 candidates for the October 6 vote. It specified that 18 parties, two coalitions and one independent candidate were certified, adding that all the political parties have candidate lists in line with the gender equality quotas.
The number of people on the electoral rolls in Kosovo is higher than the current population, the state TV RTK reported, adding that the names of the dead and others who have renounced Kosovo citizenship are still on the lists of voters. Former Central Election Commission chief Mazlum Baraliu said the problem is the fact that the electoral rolls have not been updated, leaving room for vote manipulation.
