European Union envoy for Kosovo Miroslav Lajcak told the October issue of Cord magazine that there is no rivalry between the United States and EU over the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Lajcak said that the EU sees the US as its main partner in the Western Balkans but added that the EU was not informed of the content of the documents signed at the White House by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti.
He said that talks in September between delegations from Belgrade and Pristina were productive and that progress had been achieved on certain issues of the comprehensive agreement to normalize relations such as missing persons and economic links.
“Both sides have to want an agreement which is not going to be easy. A compromise will be painful for both sides because they are very far apart in seeking a common solution,” he said.
