Election campaign starts ahead of local vote in Mostar

November 20, 2020

The election campaign for the southern city of Mostar officially kicks off on Friday, a month before the local vote in that city.

The start of the election campaign in Mostar comes days after the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina held local elections and after most of the local communities proclaimed winners.

The voting process in this city was unblocked after a 12-year stalemate over a political disagreement on changes that had to be applied on electoral legislation, pursuant to a decision by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After main political leaders reached a deal mediated by the international community representatives in Bosnia in summer this year, the Central Election Commission announced that local elections in Mostar would take place on December 20, 2020.

Previously, the top electoral authority set the local vote in the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina for November 15.
