February 22, 2021

The head of Serbia’s Batut Public Health Institute Dr Verica Jovanovic said that the percentage of new coronavirus cases has been rising over the past few days.

She said that every fourth person who was tested over the weekend tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus despite the fact that fewer people get tested on weekends. “We see that the percentage is rising which is not good,” Jovanovic told the Serbian state TV (RTS). She added that other parameters which show that the situation is deteriorating including the situation in hospitals and primary COVID centers.

“The number of first tests in those centers is growing. Also, the number of hospitalized patients, which is now more than 3,500, is also significant. That is rising. We have a large number of patients on ventilators. The Epidemiological situation is under control but is being monitored and warning us that the (anti-pandemic) measures should be as intensive as possible,” she said and appealed to the public to wear face masks as an integral part of everyday activities.
