Serbian PM says rule of law a top priority

February 22, 2021

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told an online conference on Monday that the rule of law is one of the top priorities for her government, adding that it will focus on that as much as it did on digitalization and education during its previous term in office.

She told the debate with the National Convent on the European Union that there can be no exceptions to rule of law, including the government Anti-Corruption Council which she called a relic of times past which no one should abolish. According to her, the Council serves no great purpose alongside the Anti-Corruption Agency. She said the Council members all gave themselves life-long tenure even though the government never approved that decision and claimed that the Council refuses to work with people appointed by the government.

She announced the forming of an SOS line for journalists to report threats and insults as well as a portal for those issues and a list of those offenses which will be set up with the Ombudsman.
