Predrag Kon, the chief epidemiologist and member of Serbia's crisis response team, said it was almost impossible to have the same situation with Covid-19 in Serbia as it was in December, March, and April, but that, as far as the upcoming autumn is concerned, it is impossible to say now that there will be no virus.
„Belgrade is a big sign that the situation is improving. The situation is incomparably better than in December, March, and April. I dare to say that such an increase in infection is no longer possible, because there would have to be a big change in the virus. But it would be irresponsible to say now that there will be none of it,” Kon told Prva TV.
He added it is unlikely that there will be a significant increase of infection cases in the summer and that it is a matter of weeks to „lower the virus“ to the degree where there is no serious risk and to open peacefully.
The State Secretary at Serbian Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek said that Serbia is not currently considering a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
In a statement for Politika daily, Djerlek said that the studies conducted in Serbia included a small number of patients, and that, in order to prove and determine whether something is needed, a large sample in the examination is necessary, carried the Government of Serbia website.
„Our goal is to try to finish what we started – to vaccinate as many people as possible with two doses,“ said Djerlek.
