Serbian Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac was sworn in on Thursday for a third six year term in office, despite political and public opposition to her nomination.
Dolovac has been heavily criticized by the opposition which feels that she has not been doing her job and not reacting ex officio to cases which would critics say would be very unpleasant for the authorities. Opposition politicians have claimed on several occasions that she has not been doing her job while law experts have said that there were a number of cases which she should have reacted to in public such as the unlawful demolition of buildings in central Belgrade’s Savamala neighborhood and the deaths of several people in the crash of a military helicopter transporting a sick baby.
Dolovac read out the oath of office in front of MPs and signed the document to take office. She was the only candidate for Public Prosecutor and was elected by parliament on July 22. She was first elected in 2009 and her term in office was extended in 2015.
Dolovac is a recipient of the French Legion of Honor for cooperation between Serbia and France in the field of law.
