President Aleksandar Vucic told the opening of an arms fair in Belgrade that Serbia’s policy is to preserve peace and stability but that it will continue investing in the defense industry.
“Speaking of peace and stability, the imperative in a world of interests is that there is no compassion for the weak, there is respect for the strong and that is why it’s important for us to develop our own defense industry to preserve peace and stability,” he said at the start of the Partner 2021 10th International Arms and Military Equipment fair. According to Vucic, the development of the defense industry is also important to prevent Serbia from being humiliated.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani’s claims that the Non-Aligned summit was used to campaign against Pristina, adding that the gathering was an opportunity to promote Serbia and Belgrade.
He said that Serbia was always known for its military industry. “It’s important to stand up to the great powers in promoting weapons and military equipment. It’s important to make our own way in that regard and chose the areas that we can compete in because we can’t compete in them all,” he said. Vucic said he is sure that the Serbian defense industry can maintain its position on the global market and find new partners.
Military affairs analyst Aleksandar Radic told Danas daily that the Non-Aligned summit and the arms fair are being held at the same time in Belgrade in order to help the Serbian military industry return to what were traditional markets for the Yugoslav defense industry.
The fair is at the Belgrade Fairgrounds where the 60th anniversary Non-Aligned summit is being held.
