Parliament Speaker says everyone „rather happy“ with agreement on election rules

October 24, 2021
Serbian Parliament Speaker Ivica Dacic said that “everyone is rather happy” with the agreement on election rules that the ruling parties and the opposition reached without the mediation of the foreigners, adding that he expects all seven strongest parties and coalitions that participated in the talks to sign this document.
Speaking to the public broadcaster RTS, Dacic said that the document defines the rules and that it still needs to be officially signed by those who took part in the dialogue – the Dveri, the Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia, the Democratic Party of Serbia, the DJB coalition, the Serbian Radical Party, the Zavetnici, and the environmentalist party Healthy Serbia (Zdrava Srbija).
“They are all expected to run in the elections. The elections are set to take place on April 3, that’s what our papers (for talks) said,” he stressed, adding that the parliamentary and Belgrade local elections should be called mid-February while the presidential election would be called in March, 90 days prior to expiration of the President’s mandate.
Dacic noted that the authorities committed to implement everything they agreed on with the opposition, with the mediation of the European Union parliamentarians, and that based on this will be formed a supervisory body for media, which will control the representation of the opposition in media during the campaign.
