Viola von Cramon MEP said on Wednesday that Serbia has to choose between the European Union or Moscow and Beijing.
“Serbia must choose whether it wants to truly transform itself and join the EU or further align with the autocrats from Moscow and Beijin. The politics of sitting on two chairs is unacceptable,” she wrote in a Twitter post commenting reports that Russian opposition officials were wiretapped in Serbia and that the transcripts of their talks were passed on to Moscow.
“I am shocked with the news of wiretapping Russian opposition leaders in Belgrade and its delivering to Russia intelligence service. Serbia must uphold fundamental rights and human dignity of all people on its territory,” she added.
Earlier on Wednesday, N1 and Nova.rs reported Russian opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza as saying that members of the Russian opposition were wiretapped during the meeting in Belgrade and that Serbia’s Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin handed over the transcripts of the talks to Moscow. Vulin denied the claim and said he would sue Kara-Murza.
Von Cramon is a member of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee
