May 6, 2022
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz that Belgrade will continue cooperating with the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals with focus on improving regional judiciary cooperation.
“Despite disagreement over some issues, Serbia will continue acting on this cooperation in a serious and responsible manner with focus on improving regional judiciary cooperation since our country is truly committed to contributing to reconciliation in the region in this way,” a press release quoted Vucic as saying.
It said the Vucic and Brammertz discussed cooperation between Serbia and the mechanism, the implementation of the national strategy on punishment for war crimes, judiciary cooperation between the countries of the region on relevant cases and finding missing persons.
“They assessed that Serbia’s cooperation with the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribubals is good and in continuity with efforts on both sides, and that training programs and other forms of support helped implement the war crimes strategy in Serbia,” the press release said and added that they exchanged views on efforts to resolve the issue of missing persons.
It said that Brammertz welcomed Serbia’s role in terms of regional efforts to punish war crimes and quoted him as saying that Serbia was very transparent in the exchange of indictments and information on investigations.
