The Serbian authorities exhumed the body Muamer Zukorlic, former head of the country’s Islamic Community, to determine the cause of death at his family’s request following allegations that he was poisoned.
Zukorlic’s son Usame confirmed the exhumation in a Facebook post which also expressed gratitude to the judiciary for meeting the family’s request to investigate the allegations. The late Zukorlic headed the Party of Justice and Reconciliation (SPP) after his career as an Islamic cleric.
He also noted that the Head of the Institute of Forensic Medicine from Sarajevo, Professor Nermin Sarajlic, and a professor from Hamburg are involved in the process.
Bosnia’s state Prosecution also previously asked to join the investigation into Muamer Zukorlic’s death.
Last month, Usame Zukorlic filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator with the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office of Serbia and submitted laboratory findings that he believes indicate that his father Muamer Zukorlic did not die a natural death.
He previously said at the press conference that the family suspects his father was poisoned.
