Consumer Organization chief says no food safety control

The head of the Serbian National Consumer Organization warned that the authorities are not taking food safety control seriously.
Fruit from Serbia was returned from Croatia and Montenegro after they tested positive for a banned pesticide over the past week.
Consumer Organization chief Goran Papovic said that the Council for Food Safety has not met for five years, adding that there is no control over the use of banned substances in food production.
“There is almost no control of the use of pesticides, fungicides, insecticides. The National Consumer Organization has been asking for almost 10 years for funds to send samples to an independent laboratory,” he told the Beta news agency.
