Serbian farmers block more roads

November 14, 2023

Serbian farmers continued their protests on Tuesday, blocking roads leading to Zrenjanin, Belgrade and Novi Sad.

The protest started on Monday by four farmers’ associations whose members blocked roads in Vojvodina. The farmers are demanding subsidies of 300 Euro a hectare and 100 liters of duty-free diesel fuel.

The authorities have called the protest political.

A stand-off ensued between farmers and activists of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) who used their cars to block the gates of thehome of one of the protest organizers in the village of Bavaniste. Angry farmers drove their tractors to the protest organizers home, forcing the SNS activists to leave without their cars after apologizing.
