Vucic- EU has to say it wants Serbia

February 12, 2024

President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that the European Union has to state clearly that it wants Serbia.

“Europe must understand that we expect clear signals that they want us,” he said after a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Vucic said that Belgrade is firmly committed to a faster path to Europe. This is not just something politicians say but an issue of fundamental importance to the country, he added.

The Greek Prime Minister is on a two day visit to Serbia which will include an address to the Serbia-Greek Business Forum. The visit was agreed in a phone conversation between Vucic and Mitsotakis early this year, the Serbian President’s media service said in January adding that they would discuss bilateral relations and the situation in the region.

Greek daily To Vima said that the business forum is linked to the specialized EXPO 2027 which Serbia will host adding that Greece is the first country to be invited by Serbia in relation to the event. Vucic told reporters that Serbia does not have the construction industry capacities need to build everything for the EXPO 2027, adding that Greek companies are welcome to take part. “We are in a race with time now,” he said.
