Press Council reports more than 5,000 code violations

February 13, 2024

The Serbian Press Council said in a report released on Tuesday that more than 5,000 violations of the code of journalism had been recorded in the second half of 2023.

The report said that there were 5,551 violations in the period between July 1 and December 31 last year.

It said that most media failed to report on anything negative about the authorities and that anonymous social media profiles were used to attack the opposition.

According to the Press Council, the tabloid press led the way in violating the Code of Journalism. The code was violated mainly in reporting on political issues, especially during last year’s election campaign but also in reporting on crimes and entertainment primarily on reality shows.
