Serbia officially became the 73rd non-regional member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on Thursday, the country’s Finance Ministry said in a statement carried by the Beta news agency.
Minister Sinisa Mali said it was big news for Serbia because “the membership allows the country access to favourable loans for priority projects.”
The AIIB, headquartered in Prague, started operations in 2016, and besides Serbia, non-regional members included Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and other.
At the same AIIB Board Governors’ meeting, Greece also joined the Bank as its 74th member.
