Serbia has increased its imports of bread and related products more than twofold in 2019, Belgrade daily Politika said on Friday.
The daily said that 6,000 tons of what was declared to be fresh bread, various pastry and ready to toast bread worth 6.8 million Euro was imported into the country in that period.
The imports of those products were worth 3.1 million Euro in 2018.
Politika said that most of the imported bread came from Romania, Germany, Bulgaria and Croatia.
It said that the pastry which is sold as fresh is imported pre-baked and is heat-processed just before sale, mainly in large retail chain outlets.
