Albanian president calls Serbia’s Albanians to turn out for elections

February 10, 2020

The President of Albania, Ilir Meta called all ethnic Albanians in Serbia to turn out for the April 26 parliamentary elections, Pristina-based Koha daily reported.

“President Meta is encouraging all political forces in the Presevo valley (an area of southern Serbia with a large Albanian population) and the entire Albanian population in Serbia to take part in the elections, make a maximum contribution with their stand and take their role in future institutions and central and local level,” Koha said.

It quoted him as saying that the mass turnout of Albanians for the parliamentary and local elections would guarantee them a strong voice to meet their legitimate demands and rights in Serbia.

Four Albanian national minority parties said they would field a joint list of candidates for the coming elections on April 26.
