US could cancel Kosovo investments if tariffs remain in place

February 11, 2020

Washington is cancelling all major investment projects in Kosovo until the new government in Pristina revokes the 100 percent tariffs on goods from Serbia, the KoSSev news portal said on Tuesday.

According to the portal, the Kosovo state TV (RTK) was told that those projects would be cancelled by unnamed sources.

The RTK said that US envoy for Kosovo Ambassador Richard Grenell had “clear and sharp communication” with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Parliament Speaker Vjosa Osmani to let them know that the US are prepared to invest millions in Kosovo if the tariffs are revoked. It added that Washington will cancell all projects if the government doesn’t revoke the tariffs and abandons reciprocity plans.

“The tariffs must be dropped in order for investments to work. It’s fundamental,” Grenell wrote in a Twitter post.
