After Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Avdulah Hoti cancelled a trip to Washington, Richard Grenell, the US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations, said he respected Hoti's decision and was looking forward to setting a new date for the meeting between him and Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, N1 reported.
Grenell’s high-profile meeting, scheduled for June 27 at the White House, had to be postponed for some date in future after the Specialised Prosecutor Office for Kosovo said it prepared the indictments against Thaci, former Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli and eight other Kosovars for war crimes.
In the meantime, the meetings in Brussels go on as planned with both Hoti and Vucic take part on Thursday and Friday in separate sessions with top European Union officials.
Also, Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, emphasised on Thursday an urgent need to resume the dialogue which had been going on under the EU auspices fro years, adding he expected it to be in Brussels in July.
The EU thus remains the key player in the dialogue which has been on hold since November 2018, while it seems Washington's initiative which hasn't been discussed with Brussels, will have to wait.
