Richard Grenell, the US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations, said on Friday no one mentioned the territory swap between Kosovo and Serbia in talks with him, the Beta news agency reported.
"I talked directly with the German and French security advisors to coordinate our solely economic approach," Grenell tweeted.
Reacted to the New York Times article about the cancellation of the Saturday's meeting with him at the White House after the Specialised Prosecutor Office for Kosovo announced indictments against several Pristina top officials, including President Hashi Thaci, Grenell said the US did not interfere with Belgrade and Pristina politics but coordinated with those in charge.
Many analysts and journalists saw the cancellation of the White House meeting as a US diplomatic failure.
Some even say that the European Union was behind the timing of the indictments' announcement to prevent any possible deal brokered by Washington since the US was seen as not being against the exchange of territories between Serbia and Kosovo.
Besides, Grenell's idea of the meeting without consultation with the EU which had facilitated the dialogue for years, rose many eyebrows in Brussels.
